ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
ALIA YOUSSEF, Award winning photographer

Alia Youssef is a photographer and videographer based in Toronto, best known for her editorial and fine art portraiture. Alia tells impactful stories through her environmental portraits and documentary video work.

 

Alia’s fine art work has gained wide spread recognition. The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, invited Alia to witness Malala Yousafzai’s honorary citizenship ceremony. Youssef was flown to New York City as the photographer on the 2017 Muslim Girl and Getty Images collaboration on a project which intended to flood the web with positive images of Muslim women. Alia’s work has also been featured by many online and print media (outlets) including: Refinery 29, Buzzfeed, Toronto Life, Photo Ed Magazine, The Ethnic Aisle, CP24, and Al Arabiya News (a major news station that broadcasts over several countries throughout the Middle East and North Africa.)

 

Over the past ten years, Alia has built an impressive portfolio of commissioned work by numerous companies and organizations including: Getty Images, Muslim Girl, Rumi Canada, Ryerson University, Spraggs & Co., Sunlife Financial, The West End Phoenix, and Vancouver’s North Shore Tourism.

 

Most recently, Youssef was a recipient of Combatting Hate, Advancing Inclusion exhibition award and will have her video work screened at the Aga Khan Museum (Toronto), Nuit Blanche (Toronto), and the Human Rights Symposium (Ottawa).
